Crackers at wedding in Pune set 2 cars, three bikes on fire

PUNE: Two four-wheelers and three motorcycles outside a marriage hall were reduced to ashes on Sunday afternoon after firecrackers were burst to celebrate a wedding at Chale village, about 37km from Pune, near Paud in Mulshi taluka. No one was injured.
Paud police inspector Ashok Dhumal told TOI, “A car, an SUV and three bikes were damaged. The fuel tank of one of the vehicles in the parking area may have been leaking when the crackers were burst. A stray cracker may have landed on the fuel streak on the floor, resulting in the fire around Sunday noon.”
The parking area was almost full to capacity with guests for the wedding. The sudden fire set people rushing to retrieve their vehicles from and take them to a safer place, Dhumal said.
Eyewitnesses told the police that the firecrackers started soon after the marriage was solemnized. “We are also investigating another theory by some other witnesses who said the fire may have been caused by a short circuit in a vehicle,” he added.
