Firecracker manufacturing unit catches fire injuring 9 in Alappuzhas Kuttanad

ALAPPUZHA: At least 9 people including 7 women suffered burn injuries after firecracker manufacturing unit caught fire in Pulinkunnu of Kuttanad. The incident took place in the ward eight of the grama panchayat. According to Pulinkunnu police, the injured have been identified asd Vijayamma, Thankamma, Kukku, Vinu, Bindu, Reji Sussan, Sheela and Rema.
Pulinkunnu circle inspector Nizam S said that the incident took place around 2.30pm. “As per the details available with us, this manufacturing unit had license and the licensee is Kochumon Antony. At the time of the accident, he was not there,” he said.
The grama panchayat president Bennichan Mannankarathara said that they were taken to Alappuzha Medical College Hospital and the ward member of the area also suffered injuries in the incident. “This manufacturing unit had been working in the area for the past many years. Local people, fire and rescue men and police have reached the spot and shifted the injured into the hospital. The exact cause for the fire has not been ascertained till now,” the president said.
