Updated: 2020–03–25
LUDHIANA: Timely arrival of fire brigade helped in controlling the fire that erupted in a genset shop in Atam Nagar on Tuesday. Due to the curfew and no movement on road, it took 2 minutes for the fire tender to reach the spot. It took 15 to 20 minutes for the firemen to control the fire. One fire tender was used in controlling the fire.
Sub fire officer Maninder Singh said they received a call at the Focal Point fire station around 11am from where it was passed on to Gill Road fire station. Firemen were told that the fire took place in some factory near Atam Park and two fire tenders were rushed to the spot. But when they reached the spot, it was a shop.
He said the fire erupted from the rear of the shop and they controlled the same from the windows. When the smoke reduced, they entered the shop and controlled the fire completely. He said only one fire tender was used in the process.
The firemen, however, claimed that due to the curfew they did not find traffic on the road, which usually remained crowded. They said when they started dousing the flames people started gathering the area, but were asked to go their homes due to the curfew. The police then dispersed the crowd gathered at the spot.
