Gujarat: Fire erupts at Ahmedabad Covid-designated hospital, no casualties reported

Updated: 20201209

AHMEDABAD: Another incident of fire at a Covid-19 designated hospital was reported in Ahmedabad city of Gujarat on Wednesday afternoon.

However, no injuries or casualties were reported so far in the fire which broke out at Little Flower Hospital in Maninagar area.

According to an officer of the Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services (AFES), the blaze started from an oxygen supply pipe at the hospital where 31 patients were being treated.

A fire tender of the AFES reached the hospital and swiftly controlled the fire, said a fire brigade personnel.

Interestingly, officials of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) claimed that there was no fire incident.

“In the case of Little Flower Covid Hospital, the valve of oxygen supply malfunctioned which was controlled by the secondary master and now the oxygen supply is normal. All the patients are being attended as usual,” said an AMC officer.

Wednesday’s incident brought back memories of two major cases of fire in Gujarat.

A massive fire at a Covid-designated hospital in Rajkot on November 27 had left five patients dead. Also, eight patients died on August 6 when a major fire broke out at Shrey Hospital in the Navrangpura area of Ahmedabad city.
