MUMBAI: The death toll in the cylinder blast-fire incident that occurred in Lalbaug area earlier this month rose to 9 after a man succumbed to his injuries on Friday.
According to officials, Bipin (50), who was injured in the incident that took place on December 6 in Sarabai building in Ganesh Galli locality, died at Byculla’s Masina hospital on Friday evening. The cylinder exploded during a fire at the four-storey building, which has many small rooms. There was marriage in the family and the fire erupted while cooking.
“10 people injured in the incident were being treated at KEM and 6 were admitted to Masina Hospital. Three persons have been discharged after recovery from KEM hospital,” the official said.
“In all, 16 people were injured in the incident, of whom 9 have died so far,” he added.
7 persons died at the civic run KEM Hospital and 3 were discharged. 2 persons died at the Masina Hospital. 1 person is still admitted at the hospital and is said to be critical while 3 others are stable.
