Kerala: Train catches fire near Varkala, all passengers safe

Parcel bogey of Malabar Express caught fire near Edava railway station.
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The parcel bogey of Malabar Express caught fire between Varkala and Paravur near Edava railway station at around 7.47am on Sunday. No casualties have been reported.
The passengers pulled the chain and halted the train as soon as smoke and fire were spotted.
Two fire force units arrived and brought the fire under control. Other trains have been temporarily halted.
Smoke is still emanating from the train bogey. The local residents also rushed to the scene and helped with extinguishing the fire.
According to officials, the fire has been completely doused.
The passengers have been shifted.
Two motorcycles in the parcel bogey were gutted in the fire.
Railways have not declared a probe into the incident. Rescheduling of trains is also expected. The train was coming from Mangalore to Thiruvananthapuram.
