Updated: 2021–02–06
A woman and eight dogs were killed after a fire broke out in a warehouse in Barangay Talon Singko, Las Piñas City on Saturday morning.
According to a report on Super Radyo dzBB, the woman was identified as Julie Ann Banday, 23, and a staff member at a drop-off point for an online shopping site.
A separate report on 24 Oras Weekend said like the woman, the dogs died after being trapped inside the burning warehouse.
Las Piñas City Fire Marshall Fire Superintendent Christopher Angot was quoted in the radio report as saying firefighters struggled to retrieve the body of the victim.
Based on the initial investigation of the Bureau of Fire Protection Las Piñas, the blaze broke out at the storage room of the establishment on the first floor.
The investigation added that the victim got trapped after the fire blocked an exit to the warehouse.
The main cause of the fire is still being determined, as well as the extent of the damage to properties.
The affected warehouse is located on Marcos Alvarez Avenue.
According to barangay official Maru Soriano, the warehouse is being used by a partner of Lazada and is also a storage area for paints.
The warehouse is part of a commercial block with a residential area at the back.
A hardware store also located in the commercial block was partially affected by the fire.
