MMEA Rescues Crew From Burning Vessel

JOHOR BAHARU, July 14 (Bernama) — Twenty-two crew on board a vessel, MT Samudera, which caught fire at 2.6 nautical miles of Pulau Kukup, near Pontian, were rescued by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) and the Marine Police Sunday.
A spokesman for the South Region MMEA said the vessel, which sailed from Batam, Indonesia, caught fire at about 4.40pm while on its way to Chettagon, India.
He said MMEA was informed that 23 Indian nationals, where were the crew, were on board the vessel.
However, 22 of them were rescued at 7.45pm today, while the other crew was still onboard the vessel and his condition had yet to be ascertained, he added.
He said the 22 crew had been sent to Pontian Hospital for treatment.
