Mother And Son Die In Pre-dawn Blaze

LABUAN, July 18 (Bernama) — A mother and son were killed when a pre-dawn fire razed their double storey house in Kampung Rancha-Rancha Darat here today.
Napsiah Mohd Kassim, 76, and her son, Helmy Abd Hamid, 36, were believed to have just had their ‘sahur’ and were ready for prayers when the fire broke out.
“The mother and son were on the top floor of the house which they occupied since ten years ago,” said Labuan police chief, Supt Adzhar Othman today.
After receiving a distress call at 4.40am, the police and 18 firemen rushed to the scene and prevented the fire from spreading.
Adzhar said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
A relative of the victims said the fire started in the kitchen and believed Napsiah had forgotten to put out the stove fire.
