Firemen Take 10 Hours To Douse Flame At Tanjung Tualang Landfill
Updated: 2013-07-24-20:30
IPOH, July 24 (Bernama) — Firemen from two stations took 10 hours to put out a fire which broke out about 8.30pm yesterday at the Tanjung Tualang landfill, Batu Gajah near here.
Batu Gajah Fire and Rescue station chief Halid Md Zin said the operation ended at 6.30am today.
Although the fire only affected 0.8 hectare of the four hectare landfill, firemen had to dig manually into the three-storey high garbage before spraying the foam to ensure the fire was completely extinguished, he said when contacted by Bernama.
He said 14 firemen and two fire engines from the Batu Gajah and Pasir Puteh Fire and Rescue stations were despatched to the scene after being alerted of the fire at the landfill by the State Operations Centre at 8.28pm.
