Morning Fire Pushes Three Families Into Destitution
Updated: 2013-07-28-09:30
KOTA BAHARU, July 28 (Bernama) — A morning fire pushed three families into destitution as their houses and belongings in Kampung Mentuan, Kubang Kerian, turned to ashes today.
In the 9.30 am incident, the three families living on the upper level of the shop house, were made homeless and lost their belongings, including their Raya preparations.
A victim, Hamzah Abdullah, 58, said he was relaxing outside the house when a neighbour informed him about the fire.
“I rushed in and saw that my house was on fire and left immediately to remove three rental cars parked in front of the shophouse to prevent them from catching fire,” he told reporters here.
Another victim, Hasliah Ibrahim, 52, said she did not manage to save any of her belongings as she was working at the nearby factory when the mishap occurred.
“Somebody came to the factory and told me about the fire. When I arrived home, the firefighters were putting out the fire…by then everything had turned to ashes, including my Raya preparations,” she said.
Meanwhile, Kelantan Fire and Rescue Department operation assistant director Abdul Jalil Ishak said they arrived at the scene at 9.42 am.
“Three fire engines and 17 firefighters from Kota Baharu fire station were rushed to the scene and managed to put out the fire completely in just 10 minutes,” he said.
The actual cause of fire and amount of losses are being investigated.
No casualties were reported.
