Five people died and five others were seriously injured in a fire in a goldsmith’s shop at 2 am today in Hon Gai Ward in the northern province of Quang Ninh’s Ha Long City.—Photo baoquangninh
QUANG NINH (VNS)— Five people died and five others were seriously injured in a fire in a goldsmith’s shop at 2 am today in Hon Gai Ward in the northern province of Quang Ninh’s Ha Long City.
The five injured people included Mai Thi Anh, 35, and Nguyen Tien Duc, 34, the owners of the store, Anh’s father, a domestic helper and a fireman. They are under treatment at the provincial general hospital.
Those killed were Anh’s three children aged between six and 11, Anh’s mother and a relative.
When the fire burst out on the first floor, Duc and Anh jumped to the ground and called for help. Local residents and firemen arrived quickly, but the shop design and many obstacles prevented them from getting ta the seat of the blaze.
The fire was extinguished in about an hour.
The Quang Ninh People’s Committee has allocated VND6 million (US$285) to the relatives of each of those killed. All the injured received VND3 million ($140).
Police are checking on the cause of the fire.- VNS
