Youth held for molesting and setting girl on fire

HOWRAH: The 18-year-old youth accused of molesting and setting ablaze an 11-year-old girl at Howrah’s Golabari was arrested from Salkia on Saturday afternoon. The victim is in SSKM Hospital with 70% burns.
Police had been looking for Kundan Mullick and his accomplice whom the Class IV student named before Shikha Mondal, the neighbour who rescued her on July 31 evening. Shikha conveyed her statement to the Howrah Police.
Kundan hails from Bihar’s Bhagalpur. He has been charged with attempt to rape and attempt to murder. Kundan reportedly told police that his accomplice Suraj poured kerosene on the girl and set her ablaze. Police are trying to verify whether Kundan’s statement is true, said assistant commissioner of Howrah Police, Jayeeta Bose.
