Labi forest fire brought under control swiftly

A FOREST fire broke out yesterday in Kg Sungai Beluhor Bukit Puan, near the Luagan Lalak Recreational Park in Labi, spreading quickly across several hectares of forested land sometime around 1pm.
The resulting thick black smoke billowed across to the nearby areas, affecting even traffic along the main road nearby.
Said the motorist who made the distress call, “I called the Fire and Rescue Department at 4.30pm as the fire had, by this point, destroyed a wide area of forest. Though there were several passers-by, they seemed to have just ignored it.”
A team of firefighters from Labi Fire Station arrived at the scene shortly after receiving the distress call, bringing the situation under control within minutes.
The forest fire occurred just two days after a similar incident was reported in the nearby area last Friday. According to villagers, the area is fire prone particularly during hot and dry weather conditions.
