Updated: 2013-08-08-11:14
A fire at a large factory making wooden products in Sam Khok district of Pathum Thani has caused huge damage, but no injuries.
The blaze at Prize of Wood Industry Co, a wooden product and flooring manufacturer, started about 10.30pm on Wednesday. Around 30 fire trucks were employed to fight the fire, which took almost two hours to control as the flames were fuelled by the large stocks of wood on the premises.
The factory is located on a 10-rai site on Road 347 in tambon Chiang Rak Noi. Police investigators reported the fire started in a wood drying machine. There are three buildings inside the factory compound. One building, the wood processing factory was destroyed, but fire fighters prevented the blaze spreading to the warehouse and another building.
Kom Phorndee, 36, the factory’s assistant manager, said there were fewer than 10 workers and security guards in the factory at the time. All fled to safety.
Initial estimates put the cost of the damage at 50 million baht or more. Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
