Neighbour’s Screams Alert Family Of Six Of Blaze
Updated: 2013-08-17-13:00
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 17 (Bernama) — Had it not been for a neighbour’s alert that fire had struck their unit on the 20th floor of a government quarters block in Jalan Duta, a family of six could have met a fiery end.
About 1pm Saturday, the neighbour had spotted smoke billowing from the unit and shouted, “fire, fire”, to alert the family comprising a couple and their four children.
At the time, the family was going about its routine chores, unaware that a fire was in progress – until they heard the neighbour’s shouts.
The family hurriedly left the premises to safer ground.
Seputeh Fire and Rescue Department senior commander (operations) Japari Tajudin said the unit was destroyed, while an adjoining house was slightly damaged.
Thirty-five firemen in six engines from the Sentul, Hang Tuah and Sri Hartamas stations put out the blaze, about 50 minutes later.
