Fire in old navy frigate docked in Krabi

A fire damaged the decommissioned frigate HTMS Lanta, docked at Krabi’s Khlong Chilat pier, on Thursday, police said.
No one was injured, said Pol Lt Col Thongchai Sengrod, an investigation inspector of Krabi police station.
Firefighters from three districts took 30 minutes to put out the blaze.
Welders were at work inside the frigate’s hull prior to the fire, and police believe sparks from their equipment ignited fuel oil residue inside the ship.
The former HTMS Lanta was built by the US Navy in 1945.The vessel was given to the Royal Thai Navy as part of an aid package and commissioned by His Majesty the King in 1970.
In 1999, the frigate was decommissioned and converted into a historical museum as a tourist attraction.
