LALITPUR: Property worth around Rs 7.5 million was burnt to ashes when a fire broke out at the National Cotton Factory in Imadole‚ Lalitpur‚ today.
According to Metropolitan Police Range‚ Jawalakhel‚ the fire was caused by a short circuit at around 9:00 am before the factory workers arrived for the day’s business.
The factory is owned by Dinesh Paudel and Parvez Alam.
It took three hours and a half to bring the fire under control‚ said DSP Ram Datta Joshi. Dozens of fire-fighters backed by two fire engines struggled to put out the fire which rapidly spread after it extended to the godown where raw cottons were stocked. No injury or human casualty was reported.
After some factory workers could not douse the fire by hand-held fire extinguishers‚ they called the Police Control Room for help. The disaster response team of police‚ however‚ managed to put out the fire before it could spread.
Police described it as a major fire as fire engines and trained firefighters were deployed to put out the flames. Short circuit‚ cooking gas leakage‚ and poor handling of oil lamp and candle are the major causes of fire in the Valley.
