MMEA Rescues 15 Crew Members Of Fishing Vessel That Caught Fire
Updated: 2013-09-04-12:00
LAHAD DATU, Sept 4 (Bernama) — The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) rescued 15 crew members of a fishing vessel that caught fire at the Tanjung Labian waters, about five kilometres from the shore, early Tuesday morning.

Sabah and Labuan MMEA Operations Director, Capt (Maritime) Adam Aziz said as soon as a report was received yesterday morning, a search and rescue operation was activated.

“When the search and rescue team arrived at the spot, they found the 15 crew members in another fishing boat as they had managed to swim to the fishing vessel that was nearby,” he said in a statement, here, on Wednesday.

Adam said the Royal Malaysian Navy was informed of the fire and they (the navy), quickly managed to put out the fire as they was about 5,000 litres of diesel on the boat.

He added that all the 15 crew members were brought to a private jetty in Marabong.
